Emigrating from Europe after World War II, visionary architect Laszlo Toth (Adrien Brody) arrives in America to rebuild his life, career, and reunite with his wife Erzsebet (Felicity Jones), from whom he was separated during the war due to shifting borders and regimes. Alone in a foreign, unfamiliar land, Laszlo settles in Pennsylvania, where wealthy industrialist Harrison Lee Van Buren (Guy Pearce) recognizes his talent. But power and legacy come at a tremendous cost.
