The dance performance “OTHELLO”, a co-production of the Croatian National Theatre Varaždin, Croatian National Theatre Split, and Marin Držić Theatre Dubrovnik, will be performed tonight, Monday, July 21st at 9:30 PM on the Summer Stage in Tivat as part of the Purgatorije Mediterranean Theatre Festival.
This powerful and thrilling dance adaptation is inspired by Shakespeare’s tragedy, with choreographer Maša Kolar crafting the performance as a hypnotic journey from love to crime. The production explores the fine line between dream and nightmare, trust and betrayal, ideals and their collapse, through layered character relationships that remain deeply relevant today.
“With Othello, we enter a world of unpredictable boundaries between dream and nightmare, idealism and its tragic fall, good and evil, the inner and outer lives of its protagonists. Choreographer Maša Kolar transforms the power of passion into perfectly harmonious dance movements, delving into the deepest layers of intimate relationships and social tensions that Shakespeare brings to light,” the production team stated.
A special contribution to the atmosphere comes from the powerful and dramatic music by Damir Martinović Mrle, which pulses and carries emotion through every segment of the choreography.
The cast includes: Ennio Zappalà as Othello, Nika Lilek Rep as Desdemona, Gianmarco Martini Zani as Iago, Laura Miotti as Emilia, Hélias Tur-Dorvault as Cassio, with the prologue performed by Mirabelle Tošković and Josephine Mansfield.
