At the Summer Stage in Tivat, on Saturday, July 26th, starting at 9:30 PM, the dance performance AJDE will be presented as part of the Mediterranean Theatre Festival Purgatorije.
Ajde takes the audience on an emotional and dynamic journey through the rich musical and dance traditions of the Roma community. Inspired by the celebration of Ederlezi – Đurđevdan, the most important holiday in Roma culture that honors the arrival of spring, the awakening of nature, togetherness, and new life – the performance tells the story of love being born in a society burdened by patriarchal norms and social constraints. Through powerful dance expression, vibrant rhythms, and a collage of traditional Roma music, the piece brings folklore elements to life while conveying a message about universal themes of love, freedom, and identity.
The creative team includes choreographers Igor Kirov and Bojan Micev, dramaturge Ana Ristoska Trpenoska, while the musical score blends authentic Roma melodies. The performance is produced by the organizations Motion Network and Balkan Dance Project Macedonia.
Performers on stage include Jovana Zakova, Luka Gorgievsky, Iliana Danilov, Nina Petrushevska, Andrej Dimovski, and Bojana Arsovska, whose dance interpretations further enhance the emotional power of this contemporary choreographic narrative.
