50 years after ROCKY captured audiences and became one of the most famous films of all time, comes the incredible true story of the struggle that happened behind the scenes.
Before he earned nominations for as many as three Oscars®, a Golden Globe, and worldwide fame, Sylvester Stallone was an unknown actor who couldn’t land a role. So he wrote his own script—a story about an underdog boxer, Rocky Balboa—and decided that he would play the lead role himself.
The film tells the exciting true story of an unknown actor unwaveringly convinced that he was not just meant to write Rocky, but to embody Rocky Balboa. Even though he was rejected at every turn, Sylvester Stallone risked everything and, despite nearly insurmountable obstacles, persisted in his demand to play the lead. That’s how the magnificent underdog story behind one of the most famous films of all time was born.
