The ballet performance CARMEN; BOLERO, produced by the National Theatre Sarajevo, will be presented on Tuesday, June 24th at 9:30 PM on the Summer Stage as part of the Purgatorije Mediterranean Theatre Festival.
The performance consists of two parts. The first is the ballet Carmen by composer Rodion Shchedrin, choreographed and directed by Valentina Turcu. Through movement, it delivers a powerful story of a free-spirited woman, her struggle against convention, and her fatal loves. Inspired by the opera of the same name by Georges Bizet, this ballet version brings a new dimension to the well-known story—one in which dance, rather than words, conveys all the nuances of passion, pain, and freedom.
The ballet Carmen features: Tamara Ljubičić, Oleg Karatsev, Admir Kalkan, Mihail Mateescu, Nataša Gaponko, along with Toko Tatekawa, Ivan Salonski, Selma Efendić, Darika Dunganova, Albina Huskić, Luisa Escamilla Rodriguez, Amina Sulejmanagić, Til Čmančanin, Denis Zhuchenko, Bulat Gareev, Boris Vidaković, and Masafumi Okuzono.
The second part of the evening is reserved for Bolero—Maurice Ravel’s iconic musical piece that builds intensity through a gradually escalating rhythm, creating an almost hypnotic atmosphere. In the Sarajevo ensemble’s choreography, Bolero becomes a true celebration of movement and energy—perfect for concluding an evening that leaves a lasting aesthetic impression.
The ballet Bolero features the ballet ensemble of the National Theatre Sarajevo, including: Tamara Ljubičić, Ekaterina Vereshchagina, Nataša Gaponko, Amina Sulejmanagić, Albina Huskić, Zulejha Kečo-Kapidžić, Selma Efendić, Toko Tatekawa, Darika Dunganova, Lejla Bajramović, Luisa Escamilla Rodriguez, Boris Vidaković, Bulat Gareev, Ivan Salonski, Til Čmančanin, Admir Kalkan, Masafumi Okuzono, and Denis Zhuchenko.
